Paruthipattu eco-park to be inaugurated before 2019 elections

Barring a few pending works, the 200-acre Paruthipattu eco-park is ready for public use. However, concerned authorities confirmed that the facility will not be open for public any time soon.

The 28-crore project that was envisaged in line with the Chetpet eco-park, is located in Avadi, 23 kms from the city.

This eco-restoration project was taken up along with three other lakes in Ambattur, Korattur and Retteri a couple of years ago. “The works are at different stages in the other lakes. With regard to Paruthipattu lake, only electrical works are pending that will be completed in a few days,” said a top official attached to Water Resource Department (WRD).  “The park will be inaugurated before the general elections,” the official added.

This facility will provide a much-needed recreational area for the residents of Western suburbs. Also, it will serve as a source for recharging groundwater in neighbouring areas including Govardhangiri, Melpakkam, Srinivasa Nagar, Adhiparashakthi Nagar, VGV Nagar and Sekkadu.

It is equipped with a 3-km long walking track around the bund, children’s play area, boat rides, an observation area to view two artificial islands for nesting birds. Besides an open-air auditorium, the eco-park will also have a central plaza — a place with seating arrangements for people to relax. The WRD is yet to fix the entry fee for the park.
