Number of customers at Rajaji market to be restricted: Collector

Kancheepuram Collector P Ponniah headed a raid at the Rajaji Market on Monday, and informed traders that all shops except those selling essential commodities would be closed from Monday.

Strict action would be taken against those who violate the rules, he warned. Those entering the market would be allowed only after cleaning their hands with sanitisers, he directed and added that only limited number of persons would be allowed to enter at a given time. Interacting with the media, he said 77 people who have returned from abroad are under home quarantine in the district. At each house, a police official is on duty round- the-clock to stop them from coming out of their houses. The Collector has also requested the factories in Oragadam and Sriperumbudur to reduce their manpower to a minimum and also advised them to follow all precautions. He added that even two-wheelers would not be allowed to travel unnecessarily from Tuesday evening. Strict action would be taken against those who violated the orders, he added.
