CHENNAI: Four people from West Bengal who came to Chennai in search of a job fell unconscious due to starvation at the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MGR Central railway station on Monday.

The four migrants along with seven others, had arrived in Chennai last week in search of agricultural work in the Ponneri area but did not find any employment opportunities and planned to return.

"They were staying in the station for the past two days as they didn’t find any job and had only a few biscuits and tea for the two days, which resulted in fainting. Four of them fell unconscious in the morning, reportedly due to starvation. They were taken to the emergency assistance centre and were provided food at the station. They were later shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Their condition is currently stable, and they are all in the hospital now,” said a Government Railway Police (GRP) official.
