The police said that the deceased, Manonmani of Coimbatore, had returned from London three days ago after visiting her daughter. Manonmani, who tested negative for COVID-19, requested the government officials to allow her to travel to her hometown since she was afraid to stay alone in the hotel. The officials had informed her that she will be allowed to go only after seven days and a second medical test.

The police said that Manonmani, who used to talk to her daughter over the phone, told her that she was afraid of staying alone. On Thursday morning, her daughter tried contacting Manonmani but she did not pick up the call.

On suspicion, the daughter contacted the hotel and asked them to check her room. The staff, who opened the room, found Manonmani hanging from the ceiling. On information, the St Thomas Mount police sent the body for post-mortem examination and registered a case.
