Exam pressure drives girl, mom to suicide

In another testimony to the increased pressure on children during examination time, a Class 10 girl committed suicide, reportedly after her father scolded her for not attending tuition classes, at her residence on Wednesday. Unable to bear the shock, her mother Kavitha hanged herself.

Police said Kavitha (33), wife of Balasubramani, a resident of Sheik Abdullah Nagar, Virugambakkam and her daughter Rajeshwary (15) killed themselves at their residence.

Kavitha’s 5-year-old son, who had gone out to the neighbourhood to play, saw both his sister and mother hanging from the roof, when he returned home. He cried out loud and the neighbours rushed to the spot.

Police was later informed and they recovered the body and sent them for post mortem to Royapettah government hospital. Balasubramani is into the profession of stitching dresses for actors.
