‘Desal plant shutdown not to affect supply’

In an alternative arrangement, the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has decided to supply piped water from Veeranam and Chembarambakkam lakes to parts of South Chennai where the water supply has been suspended owing to maintenance works in Nemmeli desalination plant.

“Normal piped water supply will be ensured from Veeranam and Chembarambakkam water treatment plants and hence the public are requested to not panic,” said the Metrowater Board in a press release.


The CMWSSB had already announced that the water supply would be affected in South Chennai areas like Tiruvanmiyur, Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Perungudi, Adyar, Velachery, Besant Nagar, Mylapore, Mandaiveli, Sholinganallur, Injambakkam, Neelankarai for 15 days starting from March 17.


Water would be supplied from Veeranam and Chembarambakkam lakes until the completion of maintenance work at the desalination plant, said the release.


Residents may also contact the concerned area engineers through 8144930909 (Mylapore and Mandaiveli), 8144930913 (Adyar, Velachery, Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur), 8144930914 (Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Perungudi) and 8144930915 (Injambakkam, Neelankarai, Sholinganallur) for lorry water.
