Crack in track affects train services for 1 hour

The Tambaram-Beach EMU service was affected for an hour on Friday following a crack which developed on the rail track near Pallavaram.

The railway gauge man noticed a crack on the rail track near the Pallavaram station on Friday around 5.15 am. He alerted the railway control room and the Pallavaram station master. Sources said the Beach-Tambaram EMU which was on its way to the Pallavaram station was stopped midway. The staff and engineering team who rushed to the spot began to repair the track. Meanwhile, the two EMU trains were diverted to express train tracks from 6 am.


Around 6.55 am the track was temporarily repaired and the trains were made to run at a reduced pace. Sources said that the crack would be repaired fully by midnight. But, since there were no proper announcements in the station regarding the delay, commuters faced some delay and confusion.
