Corporation nod to rename Mount-Poonamallee Road after MGR

“Even though the road is maintained by the State Highways department, cleaning works are being carried by the Corporation. So, we have decided to send a recommendation to the State Government to rename the road after MGR to carry forth the CM’s announcement,” an official said.

The decision of renaming the road was taken as MG Ramachandran’s house is located in Ramavaram Garden off Mount – Poonamallee Road.

When contacted, an official from Valasaravakkam zone under which 4 km of total 20.8 Km road falls said, “The road also falls under other nearby local bodies. Like the Corporation, other local bodies would also send recommendations to the government. The name will be officially changed after the process.”

The official added that the procedure of sending recommendations to the government is mandatory, as the road is owned by the State Highways department.
