They alleged that it had become the most worrying issue in Tamil Nadu, especially in and around Chennai. The police were making lorry drivers pay fine in cash without a genuine reason at a time when the city police have implemented cash-less transaction, the association said.

If the drivers questioned the police about the fine, they were threatened by the traffic policemen, said GR Shanmugappa general secaratary, SIMTA. Office bearers of the association, after meeting the city police commissioner and additional commissioner, Traffic, said that the senior officials have promised to take strict action against those personnel demanding money.
