Commotion at Tambaram railway station as passenger clashes with ticket inspector

The incident occurred when an electric train from Chennai Beach to Chengalpattu arrived at Tambaram railway station’s third platform.

CHENNAI: Tension prevailed at Tambaram railway station on Thursday after a guest worker attacked a ticket examiner when slapped with a penalty.

After the Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu EMU arrived at the Tambaram railway station on Wednesday evening on platform number three, a woman ticket examiner got into the first-class compartment and was checking the tickets when she found a young man from the north travelling with a general compartment ticket. When asked to pay a fine, the man pushed the woman TTE, got down from the EMU and took to his heels. Two other ticket examiners who noticed the incident chased and cornered him after when he entered into an argument with them. The quarrel soon turned physical and the passenger started to attack the TTEs.

On information, the Tambaram railway police and the RPF rushed to the spot and took the passenger to the Railway police station. He was left off after a warning after an hour. Police said a case was not registered as the passenger apologised to the TTE concerned and also paid the penalty for travelling in the first-class compartment.
