College student murdered in Vyasarpadi over previous enmity

A 22-year-old was hacked to death by a three-member gang due to a previous enmity in Vyasarpadi in the zero hours of Monday.

The deceased, M Prasanth of Sundaram Nagar, is said to have been pursuing a degree at a private college in Arumbakkam and the incident happened around 1 am when he went to pick up his mother Vinayaki’s friend Amsa to buy fish from Kasimedu harbour for sale. 

A three-member gang surrounded him a few streets away from his house and brutally attacked him with weapons before fleeing the spot. He was rushed to Government Stanley Hospital where he died without responding to treatment within hours. 

On information, Vyasarpadi police registered a case and investigation revealed that he was murdered over a previous enmity as he is one of the accused in a murder case reported in Kodungaiyur in 2017. Vyasarpadi police have secured a few suspects for interrogation and launched a hunt for the main suspect, identified as Balachandru. 

Meanwhile, Vyasarpadi police arrested three persons in connection with another assault on a history-sheeter. The accused Shankar, David and Vighnesh, who attacked one Logesh of the same locality with weapons, were remanded in judicial custody. 

Seven held for AIADMK man’s murder in Minjur 

Similarly, Minjur police arrested seven men for murdering an AIADMK man. Silambarasan of Vayalur village, an AIADMK functionary, was hacked to death in daylight in Ooranambedu on Friday. Minjur police registered a case and arrested Manavalan (27), Madhankumar (30) and Jayapal (33), Deepan (28), Mohanraj (27), Moorthi (48) and Mohan (21). They were remanded in judicial custody.
