Chennai: Three college students among 5 held for meth possession

The ANIU (anti narcotics intelligence unit) had received a tip-off about the movement of synthetic drugs in KK Nagar police limits after which a team was on vigil near the RTO ground.

CHENNAI: Five youngsters, including 3 college students, were arrested by the city police for possession of methamphetamine in KK Nagar on Tuesday. Police seized 7.7 gram of meth from them.

The ANIU (anti narcotics intelligence unit) had received a tip-off about the movement of synthetic drugs in KK Nagar police limits after which a team was on vigil near the RTO ground.

On noticing the youths loitering suspiciously, a police team rounded them up for questioning. Since the youths gave inconsistent replies, their belongings were searched which led to the discovery of drugs.

Aravind (21) of Saligramam, Mugilan (21) and Gunachandran (21) – from Kodambakkam, and Christopher (19) and Manoj (19) – both from Ashok Nagar arrested at the KK Nagar police station. Mugilan, Christopher and Aravind are college students, police said, who sourced the drug from a contact in Bengaluru and sold it to youths in the city.

Their phones and two motorbikes were also seized. The arrested persons were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. Further probe is underway to find others part of their network.
