CHENNAI: The city police have arrested a man who made a hoax bomb threat to Chief Minister MK Stalin's residence.
A probe revealed that the man was in an inebriated state when he made the call and claimed that he was upset as local police did not act immediately on his complaint about a dispute in a Tasmac outlet.
The police sources said that the man called the control room on Sunday evening and claimed that a bomb had been planted at the Chittaranjan Avenue residence and the vehicle of CM Stalin.
Teynampet police were alerted, and a police team, along with Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad personnel, made an extensive search after which the threat was declared a hoax.
The cybercrime wing traced the phone call to Selaiyur. The caller was identified as Vinoth Kumar. He was standing outside a Tasmac outlet on Camp Road and made the call in an inebriated state.
He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
A couple of months ago, city police secured a physically challenged man for issuing a hoax bomb threat to the Chief Minister's residence. Probe revealed that he is a serial offender and has been arrested for a similar offence earlier.
However, considering his family situation, he was warned and let off.
