Chennai gold price plunges by Rs 800, silver costs Rs 250 per gram on March 31, 2026

CHENNAI: Gold rate plunged in the city on Tuesday (March 31) by Rs 800 per sovereign (8 grams).

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,09,360 per sovereign and Rs 13,670 per gram, after a decrease of Rs 100.

On March 30, gold cost Rs 1,10,160 per sovereign and 13,770 per gram.

Silver prices decreased

Silver prices decreased by Rs 5 to be priced at Rs 250 per gram (Rs 2,50,000 per kg) on March 31. On March 30, silver was priced at Rs 255 per gram.

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 67,400 per sovereign (Rs 8,425 per gram) on March 31, 2025, to Rs 1,09,360 per sovereign (Rs 13,670 per gram) on March 31, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 41,960 or about 62.255%.
