Chennai: Actress Anju Krishna among 8 arrested in drug case in Valasaravakkam

CHENNAI: The city police’s Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) arrested actress Anju Krishna (30), who has acted in the lead role in the film Om Vellimalai and appeared in several Malayalam films, including Aaro and Akasham Kadann, in connection with a drug consumption and trafficking case in Valasaravakkam.

Police said Anju Krishna, a resident of Vadapalani, was among eight persons taken into custody during a late-night operation. Vincy Nivetha (26), also of Vadapalani, who works as an assistant director in the Tamil film industry, was present with the group at the time of the arrest.

According to police, the ANIU (South) team received a tip-off about the movement and use of narcotic substances in the Valasaravakkam limits. Acting on the information, a team led by Inspector Johnny Chellappa intensified surveillance in the area.

The investigation began with the arrest of Vigneshwaran (33) of Nesapakkam, from whom police seized methamphetamine and ganja. During interrogation, he revealed that the narcotic substances were procured from Venkatesh Kumar (31) of Kovur near Porur.

Based on this information, police deployed a decoy customer and intercepted Venkatesh Kumar when his car arrived near a landmark in Valasaravakkam. A search of the vehicle led to his arrest along with several associates.

Those arrested include Karthik Raja (31) of Kovur; Yashwanth (25) of Kattupakkam; Sriram (33) of West Mambalam; Alvibinsha (27) of Kovilambakkam; Vincy Nivetha (26) of Vadapalani; and Anju Krishna (30) of Vadapalani.
