Ramanan, who was given a fitting farewell by his colleagues on his last day at office, also congratulated Balachandran for taking over as the new director.

Ramanan was probably the most visible man on television screens in the months of November and December when people were anxious to know what the weather would be like.

When heavy rains and floods wreaked havoc, Ramanan was in focus for his predictions. Apart from the widespread media coverage he received, Ramanan was probably the most memed man and there were numerous spoofs about him floating around on the social media.

“My tenure as the Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, was interesting and challenging, as it was the warnings we provided, helped many prepare in advance and save their lives and belongings”, he said.

While the unprecedented rains and the floods in December last year would forever be etched in people’s minds for its sheer magnitude, the period was also one of the most unique experiences in Ramanan’s career, as ‘it was the time when I established a special bond with the pillars of tomorrow, the student community”.

“And this bond shall continue even after my retirement”, he said. “In future, I have plans to take lectures and seminars on Meteorology in educational institutions. I will never forget the love and affection showered to me by students,” he smiles.
