Accident on highway kills woman & kid, hubby injured

A 26-year-old woman police constable and her 2-year-old son were killed in an accident on the National Highway near Kancheepuram on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Uma Devi, a constable in the Sivakanchi police station and her son Dathsith. Police said that on Wednesday evening, Uma Devi’s husband Raja came to the police station along with Dathsith and picked her up and were travelling to their house in Panapakkam.

When they were on the National Highway near Baluchetty Chatiram, a mini lorry that was out of control hit two cars and rammed the bike from behind. On the impact, the victims fell and suffered severe injuries. Uma Devi and Dathsith died on the spot.

The Baluchetty Chatram Police team that arrived at the spot admitted an injured Raja to the Kancheepuram GH and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
