4 held for selling banned gutkha in Madhavaram

CHENNAI: Four men were arrested in Madhavaram for illegally stocking and selling banned gutkha packets. The police seized 13.5 kg of the tobacco products.

The city police have intensified surveillance and action against narcotics and banned substances. Following a tip-off, a team led by the Madhavaram Police Inspector monitored a house on SSV Koil Street, Madhavaram Milk Colony, on Thursday morning and found that gutkha packets were illegally hoarded and sold at the premises.

Four persons — Praveen Kumar (47) of Madhavaram Milk Colony, Prakash (24) and Kabilan (29) from Ramanathapuram, and Ponraj (46) of Kodungaiyur were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
