As part of its efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus in TN, hotels and restaurants have been allowed only takeaway services. Hotels in Chennai and those in the tier-II and III cities find the response from the people to be slow and unviable. There are an estimated 50,000 hotels and restaurants in TN.

Some hotels even launched takeaway menu options which can be ordered over phone, allowing people to enjoy a meal sitting in the safety and comfort of their homes. “Lodges and hotels are suffering due to lack of business and the parcel (takeaway) service has seen only 25 per cent business and is least profitable,” M Venkada Subbu, President, The TN Hotels Association, said. Uncertainty continues to shadow

 the sector, he added.
