CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday reiterated the need for the secular opposition to come together to defeat the BJP and said that the people of the country would oppose them unitedly.

Speaking at the state conference of CPI at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, Stalin said, “BJP, whose sole aim is to divide people by religion, language and culture are calling us separatists. There can be no bigger joke than this. BJP is born to divide people for its selfish interests. Such a motive has been defeated in Indian politics many times. It will be defeated in the future too.”

Reminding the BJP that it should not misunderstand its electoral success as the success of its ideology, Stalin said, ”BJP will not succeed in its attempt to create a communal, casteist, autocratic and unitary India. The people of India will oppose them unitedly.”

Asserting that Kerala chief minister Pinrayi Vijayan and he proclaim ‘federalism’ not just to protect Kerala and TN, but to protect the country, Stalin said, “We should raise our voice together to uphold the principles of federalism, state autonomy, secularism, equality, fraternity, socialism and social justice all over India. Our ideals may be great, but for them to succeed, all the forces backing the ideology must come together.”

“Individual voices here and there are not of much use. It should be a united voice. It is not enough if we are together only in a few states. We should stand united in all states. We should be an all India force, ” he added, issuing a call to the Opposition to unite against the ruling BJP.

Describing it as time “to not just just talk, but act, ” the DMK president said, “Until the Indian constitution is amended to be truly federal, from the current status of quasi- federal, we shall not stop. We must continue to raise our voice and work towards our goal.”

Stating that they were speaking for the BJP ruled states that are also in danger, Stalin said, “BJP is pushing us to one nation, one election, one food, one exam, one religion, one language and one culture policy, which would culminate in one party government if it continues. One party will evolve into one person. There could be nothing more dangerous than that. BJP members would be happy till it becomes the only party. When it evolves into one person, even BJP members must join us and fight. India is not a single government. It is a union of many states. Uniformity is not unity.”
