CHENNAI: Hours after the Mahila Court convicted A Gnanasekaran in the Anna University sexual assault case, Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami welcomed it. He said the unreluctant voice of the principal opposition, the AIADMK, in support of the victim and the evidence and documents submitted in the court led to such a verdict.
He, however, said that several important questions remained unanswered in the case, including the one -- ‘Who is that Sir?”, and said that the ruling party misunderstood that half-truths would help them to escape justice.
Taking to social media on Wednesday, Palaniswami said the Madras High Court constituted the special investigation team (SIT) after seeing the way the DMK government handled the case. He also criticised Chief Minister MK Stalin for claiming credit for the court verdict and questioned whether the TN state police secured justice for the victim in the case.
In yet another social media post, the AIADMK leader listed out a series of questions in connection with the case, starting from the manner of Gnanasekaran's arrest and his close association with the Minister and Deputy Mayor of Chennai Corporation and why the police did not inquire about them.
“Most importantly, who is that, Sir?” he asked, alluding to unnamed persons involved in the case remaining untouched. He continued that once the present dispensation comes to an end, the AIADMK regime would dig deep into the case to unmask who that ‘Sir’ is.
