CHENNAI: Fan rivalry ahead of two major Pongal film releases turned ugly in Madurai, after posters of Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming film Parasakthi were torn down outside Ritzy Cinemas.

A video that has since gone viral shows a group of Vijay fans tearing and flinging Parasakthi posters while standing in the queue outside the theatre, waiting to be let in to watch the screening of Vijay's Jana Nayagan trailer.

Both Jana Nayagan and Pongal will be released for the Pongal festival. Director H Vinoth's Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol, is slated for release on January 9, and is touted to be Vijay's last film before his full-fledged political plunge. Parasakthi, which is directed by Sudha Kongara, and featuring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan Sreeleela and Atharvaa in lead roles, is scheduled to hit theatres on January 10.
