CHENNAI: Following Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, the release of Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, scheduled for January 10, also appears to be facing last-minute uncertainty, with filmmaker Sudha Kongara approaching the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) Revising Committee to challenge the 23 cuts suggested for the film. Jana Nayagan has already run into censor delays, forcing the postponement of its January 9 release.
According to a Maalaimalar report, the CBFC raised objections to several scenes in Parasakthi, particularly those linked to anti-Hindi agitations, and recommended their removal or modification. Sudha Kongara is said to have opposed these proposals, arguing that the cuts would disrupt the film’s narrative and weaken its historical context, prompting her to seek a review before the Revising Committee. Parasakthi is yet to receive its censor certificate. The latest report is that distributor of the film from Netherlands has officially announced that the film won't be screened in the country on January 10. It is to be noted that films need to be sent overseas at least one week prior to their release.
Parasakthi marks Sivakarthikeyan’s 25th outing, also featuring Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela. It is produced by Aakash Baskaran under Don Pictures, with music by GV Prakash Kumar.
Meanwhile, KVN Productions announced on Wednesday that Jana Nayagan's January 9 release has been postponed due to a delay in receiving its censorship certificate, with a new release date to be announced. The film is Vijay’s farewell project before he transitions into full-time politics.
