Police said five people, including a girl child were crushed to death when a car in which they were travelling collided head on with a truck at Karumpuliyuthu village near Alangulam in Tirunelveli district.The occupants of the ill-fated car were going to the market to buy meat for a party, when the tragedy occurred.

In another incident, two persons, including a teen-girl were killed and three others seriously injured when the car they were travelling in dashed against the parapet wall of a culvert at Pullukottai village in Sivaganga district.
