CHENNAI: PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday urged the Tamil Nadu government should complete the stormwater drain works soon.

Taking to the micro-blogging platform Twitter, he tweeted, "A young man named Vasudevan, who fell into a ditch dug in Adamappakkam, Chennai, has been pierced by iron bars. He is receiving treatment at the hospital with serious injuries in many places on his body.”

“Such accidents are due to the trenches dug for stormwater canals being left in place for days with steel bars attached to them without any safety barriers. This is the second time that people have fallen into stormwater drains in Chennai. Earlier in Adyar area, a person was injured after falling into a storm water drain. Such accidents will continue unless safety barriers and warning lights are installed at night. None of the work related to the construction of stormwater drain was carried out as per the fixed schedule,” he continued.

He continued to add that with the onset of monsoon soon, work on excavated areas should be completed quickly.

“Otherwise, ditches should be closed till the end of the rainy season @CMOTamilnadu,” he concluded.
