A team of around 30 NIA sleuths swooped down on the houses of Febin Rahman of Selvapuram, Anish of GM Nagar, Hyder Ali of Sugunapuram, Saddam Hussain of Tudiyalur and Muhammed Ali of Vellakinaru in the early morning hours.

Following the raid, which went on for several hours, the sleuths seized cellphones, laptops and diaries from their houses. Febin Rahman had only last week submitted a petition to the police that he and his family members were being subjected to harassment by the NIA under the pretext of enquiry. The family of the five persons gave a petition at the commissioner’s office claiming they were tortured and threatened to give statements by the NIA.

Sasikumar was hacked to death by a four-member gang at Subramaniyampalayam on the night of September 22, 2016. Initially, the case was probed by the Coimbatore rural police. As they failed to make any headway, it was transferred to the CB-CID.
