Food poisoning from grilled chicken leaves 22, including 3-year-old, hospitalised in Madurai

CHENNAI: A total of 22 people, including a three-year-old girl, were hospitalised allegedly after suffering food poisoning after eating grilled chicken from a hotel in Madurai, according to a Daily Thanthi report.

The report added that Prasanna, along with his 10 friends, consumed chicken from a hotel near Thenkarai bridge in Chozhavandhan and experienced dizziness. Apart from them, 12 more people, including a three-year-old girl, developed health issues after consuming food from the restaurant.

All of them had vomiting and diarrhoea, and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Upon learning of the incident, Health Department supervisor Muthuraj, health inspectors Satheesh and Bhoopan Chakravarthy, and Food Safety Officer Rajkumar conducted an inspection at the private hotel. They found that the restaurant was violating health regulations and using polythene materials.

The hotel was slapped with an immediate fine of Rs 4,000, while food samples from there were collected and sent to Madurai Medical College for testing.

Also, the Sholavandan police are conducting an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, 13 of the affected individuals have recovered and returned home, while others are still undergoing treatment.
