CHENNAI: Officials of the State Forest Department attached to Tiruvallur district on Saturday rescued a nesting Indian Rock Python of about 12 feet from Pennalurpettai.
The staff attached to the local Anjaneyar Koil were shocked to see a massive python nesting in the temple premises. Subsequently, the forest office in Sengundram was informed.
A team led by forest range official Clement Edison rushed to the temple and rescued the reptile. The foresters also collected 10 eggs.
“The snake could have migrated from the nearby forest in Uthukottai, and laid eggs early this week. We have collected the eggs safely and have left the eggs with the nesting reptile for incubation,” Clement told reporters on Sunday after releasing the snake into the Uthukottai reserve forest.
