The main accused, Santhoshkumar (20) of MKB Nagar, stole a KTM bike as he could not afford to buy spare parts for his 200 CC bike. As he found that he could make a good profit by selling the bike parts, he started stealing KTM bikes.

Santhoshkumar, who is unemployed, is also involved in drag racing to make money.

“Two months ago, his bike was damaged after he met with an accident during a drag race. As he could not afford to buy spare parts, a bike mechanic Prithviraj of Vyasarpadi gave him the idea to steal a KTM bike to replace the damaged spare parts,” said police.

Santhoshkumar immediately stole a bike from Vepery and Prithviraj helped him to fix his bike and sell the other spare parts.

Following this, Santhoshkumar along with Prithviraj and friends, Balaji and Ajithkumar, started stealing KTM bikes in Kilpauk and Maduravoyal.

While MKB Nagar police secured Santhoshkumar during a vehicle check, they found out that he was wanted in Vepery police station. The police also arrested a man identified as John Samuel, who bought a stolen bike from them for Rs 8,0000. All four were remanded in judicial custody and police are inquiring how Santhoshkumar bought his bike.
