Don’t use school vehicles for political events: Schools Association

TIRUCHY: There are around 20,000 vehicles in the private schools across the state, but they are asked for political as well as government events only then, the fitness certificates are issued by RTOs, charged the state body meeting of Private Nursery, Primary, Matriculation and CBSE Schools Association on Monday.

Speaking to reporters in Thanjavur, the association's General Secretary, KR Nandakumar, said, more than 10,000 private schools across the state have been waiting for permanent recognition by the government for the past four years, and this affects the functioning of private schools since the recognition is mandatory for several services, including vehicle repair works and availing loans.

“We have been demanding permanent recognition for the private schools, but citing certain unusual reasons, the recognition has been prevented,” Nandakurmar said.

Stating that out of 10 lakh students enrolled in private schools in the past four years and among them around one lakh each year was admitted through RTE (Right To Education) scheme, Nandakumar said, the union government has already sanctioned the fund under RTE scheme but the state government is yet to release a fund of Rs 846 crore to private schools, he said.

Meanwhile, he charged that the private school vehicles are asked for by the government and political events, only then are they given FC.

“There are around 20,000 vehicles in the private schools across the state, but the transport officials force them to serve for the political as well as the government events.

We have been demanding not to use our vehicles for such events, but the government is yet to respond,” he said.
