Development, good governance our poll plank, claims BJP

CHENNAI: Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Sunday said that the BJP’s core strategy for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections would center on “development and good governance.”

The Union Minister of State for Law and Justice said, “We have elections in five states (in 2026). Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry. Our agenda is very clear. That is the prime and foremost agenda. We will fight on the issue of development and good governance. “

Meghwal’s comments come just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the campaign for the TN Assembly polls at Madurantakam on January 23. The BJP has appointed Meghwal as the Tamil Nadu co-incharge while senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal is the party’s election in-charge for the State.

BJP forms manifesto panel

Meanwhile, A day after ally AIADMK released the first set of its election promises, the state BJP on Sunday constituted a separate committee to prepare its election manifesto for the Assembly polls.

Announcing the decision, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran said the party’s manifesto preparation committee would be headed by former state president and national general council member Tamilisai Soundararajan.

The 13-member committee includes senior leaders VP Duraisamy, KP Ramalingam, P Kanagasabapathy, Raama Sreenivasan, Karthiyayini, C Narasimhan, KS Radhakrishnan, ANS Prasad and others. Party sources said the committee would soon hold consultations to finalise the party’s election document, which is expected to focus on governance, development and welfare with fiscal prudence.

The move comes a day after Union Minister of State L Murugan said the NDA would present only realistic and implementable assurances to voters.
