CHENNAI: The two-day district-level volleyball tournament concluded in Vellore with a prize distribution ceremony honouring the winning teams. The Dr Sivanthi Club emerged victorious in the women's category, securing the championship title.
The tournament, jointly organised by the Vellore District Police and the Vellore District Volleyball Association, was held at the Netaji Sports Ground.
The closing ceremony was presided over by GV Selvam, Vice-Chairman of VIT and President of the District Volleyball Association. District Police Superintendent A Myilvaganan was the guest of honour, and Mayor Sujatha attended as a special invitee.
A total of 21 teams participated in the tournament, with 13 in the men's section and 8 in the women's section. In the women's finals, Dr Sivanthi Club triumphed over the St. Joseph's team to claim the top prize in the women's category, while the men's championship was won by the Perumugai team.
Prizes worth Rs. 1.8 lakh and trophies were awarded to the top eight teams across both categories. Additionally, helmets were presented to the best male and female players. The event was coordinated by Association President Thyagasanthan, Secretary Lakshmanan, Vice-President Vinod, and others.
