Vijay Kumar demits office as MHA adviser

K Vijay Kumar, a retired IPS officer from Tamil Nadu cadre known for hunting down forest brigand Veerappan while heading the special task force has been functioning as Ministry of Home Affairs’ senior special adviser. He demitted the office on Wednesday.

“I will be returning to Chennai soon. Yet to decide on future activities,” said the 65-year-old former Chennai police commissioner, when DT Next contacted him on Wednesday.

I completed my tenure with the home ministry. I had lot of chances to interact with Union Home Minister, home secretary and chief ministers of many states. There were many ups and a few downs during my stint, he recalled.

Vijay Kumar, had been advising MHA on left-wing extremism as senior special adviser, was actively engaged in formalising strategies in taking on Maoists onslaught in the red corridor.
