Two hurt in fire at Tangedco substation

Two employees suffered burns in a fire that was reported at Tangedco substation on Tuesday evening. Several areas witnessed power cuts due to the accident.

After an alert around 4.30 pm, about 25 TNFRS personnel from Velachery and Guindy fire stations rushed to the spot with two fire tenders. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Think smoke engulfed the surroundings due to the fire. The Velachery police said that two staff members – wireman Amudhan (42) and helper Sasikumar (24) – suffered burns and have been admitted to a nearby private hospital.


One of the equipment at the substation caught fire leading to the accident, said I Mohammed Ayub, fire station officer of Velachery. While the Tangedco staff rescued the injured, fire personnel prevented a major tragedy with their swift action. Several localities in Velachery witnessed power cut till 9 pm due to the accident. The Velachery police however said that they are yet to receive an official complaint to proceed with investigation.
