TV actor, former VJ Sai Prashanth commits suicide

Well-known Tamil television artiste S Sai Prashanth allegedly committed suicide at his residence here yesterday by consuming a drink in which he mixed poison.

According to police Prashanth was found dead at his residence. But the reason behind the suicide was not clear. Police speculated that Prasanth could have been suffering from depression. He had divorced his first wife and married again less than three months ago.

Police took the body to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem. Prashanth's parents, who are based in Hosur were informed and they were rushing to Chennai. His mother Lalitha S Subash is a former Vice-President of Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP and was a member of the Censor Board.

Apart from work in TV, Prashanth had acted in about 10 feature films also. He was a well-known personality in films and television. He began his career as a VJ on a popular Tamil music channel and shifted to acting, playing character roles in serials like Annamalai, Selvi and Arasi. His films include Mundhinam Paar-theney (2010), Neram (2013), Thegidi (2014) and Vadacurry (2014).

He had also participated in reality dance shows, including Jodi No-1 and hosted television shows like Dil Dil Manadhil, among others.
