“When we decided to do this year’s Christmas canticles, the school management wanted to make it something interesting. We decided to include maximum number of students in the choir and apply to the Asia Book of Records. Their criteria were that a minimum of 400 students should be singing in 20 languages. We did the audition in November and students between the age group of 3 and 16 started practising from then on. They were so excited to be part of this,” says Gokul Raj, spokesperson of St. Britto’s Academy.Vivek Nair, the adjudicator of Asia and India Book of Records, judged their attempt.
“Students sang in Portuguese, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Arabic, Chinese, German, Russian, and all other Asian languages. Various language teachers, who are working in the school, taught them the songs. Within a month, students were able to sing the songs spontaneously in various languages. For the record-breaking event that was held at a popular mall in the city, we had also invited language expertsfrom various embassies in Chennai,” he adds.
