Perarivalan attacker attempts suicide

Rajesh Khanna, a life convict lodged in Vellore prison, who attacked Perarivalan alias Arivu, allegedly attempted suicide in the prison hospital in Vellore on Wednesday.

Sources said Rajesh complained of giddiness after attacking Arivu. So he was admitted to the prison hospital.

While in the hospital, Rajesh consumed a large quantity of tablets and fell unconscious. Subsequently he was shifted to the intensive care unit. 

Prison authorities said that after recovery Rajesh would be to shifted to a new prison and lodged in a solitary cell. 

Meanwhile, doctors treating Perarivalan made stitches on the cut portion on his head and took a scan to study the level of internal injury. Rajesh had attacked Arivu with a rod used for sewage clearance. 

Arputhammal’s appeal for parole: 

In another development, Arivu’s mother Arputhammal, who met media persons after meeting her son in the jail, said that she wanted to spend some time with him and appealed to the government and authorities to release him on parole. 

Several outfits have been seeking the release of Arivu and the other convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv assassination case on the grounds that they had already completed a long jail term.
