History-sheeter hacked to death in Arumbakkam

A 46-year-old man was hacked to death by a gang in front of a temple in Arumbakkam in broad daylight on Tuesday.

The deceased, Krishnamoorthy alias Kicha, had eight cases, including an attempt to murder in 2003, pending against him in Arumbakkam, said the police. Though he hailed from Arumbakkam, he was staying in Ernavur for the last few years. The incident took place around 10.30 am when he came out to distribute water cans in a push cart.


When he was near Perumal temple, six men on two bikes surrounded him and hacked him with machetes multiple times before fleeing the spot. With grievous injuries on his head, Krishnamoorthy died on the spot.


On information, the Arumbakkam police rushed to the spot, recovered his body and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case of murder has been registered and the police are going through the CCTV footage collected from the locality to identify the suspects.


After preliminary inquiry, the police suspect that it could be a murder for revenge and two special teams have been formed under the supervision of Anna Nagar Assistant Commissioner Gunasekaran to arrest the suspects.
