This came a day after a teenager was thrown off from his motorcycle and plunged 30 feet deep from the flyover on Friday morning. The investigation sleuths seized 250g marijuana from the backpack of the victim, who was declared brought dead at the government hospital in Chromepet.
The flyover in Chromepet is maintained by the City Road Division of the State Highways, was inaugurated in 2016 to decongest traffic and ease entry and exit into the city.
On Saturday, the members of the Federation of Pallavaram Residents Welfare Association appealed to the local police inspector to register a complaint against the concerned authorities for negligence.
“The flyover lacks proper maintenance and the crack, with a width of five-and-half inches across the it, led to the recent accident. Several such minor accidents involving motorists occurred at this same spot. We had given multiple representations to the Highway to take necessary steps. But our efforts remained futile. The department should take action against the concerned authorities for their negligence,” said V Santhanam, the president of the federation.
This is not the first such incident. Earlier this year, a 30-year-old man had a fatal fall after being thrown from his motorcycle on the same flyover. Last December, a State Transport Corporation bus fell off from the MIT flyover, injuring six passengers.
Although the local police are yet to register a complaint, they mediated between the officials and residents, and pacified the latter. When contacted, a senior official from the Highways Department promised to take necessary steps to improve the condition of the facility.
