VIT University Chancellor G Viswanathan handed over the admission letter to Neeraja in the presence of her parents Dr Radhakrishnan and Dr Shajidha. This is the first time that a state topper is joining VIT University, though the University had announced a few years ago that it would offer full fee waiver in its BTech courses to Central/State Board toppers in Class 12 examinations.
Neeraja, a student of Durga Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Kannanghad in Kasaragod district, had secured 1200 out of 1200 marks this year, said a release from university. Neeraja said that she had applied for BTech in Cochin University of Science and Technology and also took the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination. She decided to join VIT taking advantage of the GVSDP scheme. She was also attracted by record placement on campus at VIT University.
The topper says she would make use of the opportunities available in the university and enhance her talents in dance and sports too, apart from studies. Neeraja says she has won several school and district level championships in athletics, besides she has won several competitions in Maths.
