Think twice before you board an overcrowded train during rush hour or travel on the footboard for fun’s sake in a suburban train next time as it might deprive you of the season pass (concession).

Struggling to crack down on footboard travellers, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is considering cancellation or seizure of season passes of such commuters.

Senior divisional security commissioner, Chennai Railway Division, S Paul Amuthan, told DTNext that they plan to work with the commercial department in this regard. Also, RPF plans to videograph trains during peak hours to identify footboard travellers, most of whom are college/school students. Beach -Tambaram, Moore Market Complex (MMC) – Avadi and MMC – Arakkonam have been identified as vulnerable routes where maximum footboard travel cases have been reported.

“We have identified routes prone to footboard travels. Videographing will help identify trains and stations more prone to the problem. We will also be able to identify the schools from the uniforms. We will subsequently approach the institutions to educate the students,” Amuthan explained.
