Chennai sees rainfall after gap of a few days

Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal

CHENNAI: The city experienced light rain on Friday afternoon after a gap of few days.

Areas affected included Egmore, Vepery, Chennai Central, Kilpauk, Mount Road, and several other parts of the city.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, while dry weather is expected to prevail over interior Tamil Nadu on Jan 23.

The RMC also announced that heavy rain is likely to occur in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai districts on January 24.

The state weather department further said that squally winds, with speeds reaching 45–55 kmph and gusting up to 65 kmph, are likely to prevail over parts of the southwest Arabian Sea.
