Thanjavur man held for KK Nagar temple theft; idols, ornaments recovered

Based on a complaint, a special team launched an investigation and arrested the accused, identified as Karthi (20), a native of Tirumangaicheri in Thanjavur.

CHENNAI: The KK Nagar police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the burglary of the Varashakti Vinayagar Temple located on Arcot Road and recovered two bronze idols, a gold coin, and a silver chain.

On January 18, the temple priest, Chandrasekhar (48), a resident of West Mambalam, discovered the break-in. Based on a complaint, a special team launched an investigation and arrested the accused, identified as Karthi (20), a native of Tirumangaicheri in Thanjavur.

The probe revealed that Karthi has a prior criminal case registered against him. The arrested person has been remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is under way.
