This new boarding gate will enable the airline staff to enter flight updates from the boarding gates itself and maintain online coordination with the Airport Operation Control Centre (AOCC). The officials believe this will bring a better interaction between the airlines and AOCC.

An official said that there were only telephonic conversations between the airline staff and the AOCC earlier and it was a long process causing delays in updating flight status and other details. “When there is a delay of even a few minutes, the passengers will begin to question. With this new system, there will be no such delays. The passengers will benefit from this system as information will be updated in a much faster way on the display boards,” an airport official said.

Chennai is the first AAI Aiport with this kind of system and it will be extended to all the airports which are under AAI, according to a release. Besides, there will be an effective utilisation of manpower and reduced demand for space, hardware and power requirement.
