The deceased boy was identified as Kavinesh from Ambedkar Nagar in Adambakkam.

On Friday afternoon the boy’s mother Kanchana picked him from school. As she got busy in the kitchen, he let Kavinesh play with other children in front of the house. Police said the house, which is situated very close to a lake, does not have a compound wall. While playing, the boy went near the lake. He slipped and fell into the lake when none were around.

On noticing this, Kanchana rushed outside the house and raised an alarm. Hearing her cries, the neighbours rushed to the spot and took the boy out of the water. Kanchana and neighbours rushed him to a private hospital nearby. The doctors there referred him to the Chromepet government hospital. However, by the time the boy was taken there, he had died, and the doctors declared him brought dead. The Adambakkam police have registered a case and are investigating.
