TECH NEXT: Telephoto lens really stands out in this smartphone version

The Galaxy S20 Ultra might have been the showstopper during the launch of Samsung’s trio of S20 flagships. But it’s the S20+, the middle sibling that has our attention — it could well be the premium Android flagship to beat.

The S20+ features is elegantly designed and feels great in your hand. For years, Samsung’s user interface didn’t quite keep up with the brand’s cutting edge design and gorgeous displays. That’s changed with the debut of Samsung’s One UI. The S20+ is powered by the latest version (2.1) of this minimalist spin on Android and complements the design aesthetic.

Samsung shrinks the pin-hole front cam, it’s easy to ignore in a display that is truly immersive. The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED (1440 x 3200 pixels / 525 PPI) is probably our favourite display out there. Samsung has added a 120Hz refresh rate that we have seen in a couple of other Android flagships. This fluidic display is sheer joy whether you’re gaming or playing catch up on Netflix.

The S20+ is a hardware powerhouse that’s propelled by an Exynos 990 Processor; it combines with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal memory. There’s support for Micro SD cards. The device is lightning quick and blazed through our benchmark and intensive gaming tests. Samsung is playing up the rear cam — the highlight is a 64MP telephoto lens that allows you to shoot up to 30X (hybrid) zoom. Results are quite terrific at 10X where you can also use the night mode. A 12MP primary sensor (dual pixel with an f/1.8 aperture), a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a depth sensor complete the set up. We were equally impressed with the results of the 10MP selfie cam that captures sharp selfies. The Samsung Galaxy S20+ might just end up being the S20 sibling that works for most people. The display is vibrant, the battery (4500 mAh) is dependable, the cameras won’t let you down and the form factor finds the balance between a large screen and heft.(Rs 73,999)
