Samsung has rolled out an array of new devices in the first month of the year, suggesting that the brand intends to maintain the momentum from 2019. The Galaxy A51, picks up the reins from the A50S and brings some key enhancements for a critical device that faces intense competition in the Rs 20,000 to 25,000 price band.

The most noticeable change is the tiny pin-hole for the front cam — the smallest on any Samsung device along with the Note 10 Lite, that makes it one of the most immersive displays at this price point.

The 6.5-inch Infinity-O, Super AMOLED display (1080 x 2400 pixels / 405 PPI) allows you to catch videos with minimal interference — it’s easy to ignore this tiny pin-hole. Colours are truly vibrant. We like the textured prism design on the rear of the device that sets this apart. The form factor — the device weighs just 172 gm, is quite impressive despite a robust 4000 mAh battery under the hood that won’t let most users down.

Samsung has packed four lenses into the rear camera, this quad cam includes an improved 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 5MP macro lens that adds a whole new dimension to the camera experience. A 32MP selfie cam completes the A51’s camera set up. An Exynos 9611 processor teams up with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory (there’s also support for Micro SD cards up to 512GB). There’s no wireless charging or water resistance, still reserved for more expensive phones and yet the A51 manages to bring quite a few features from Samsung’s premium devices to this aggressively priced smartphone. Sennheiser AMBEO: Home theatres that once dominated the home entertainment space are slowly making way for soundbars that reduce clutter and also pair up more seamlessly with smartphones and tablets. Sennheiser’s newest premium soundbar promises an immersive, surround sound experience without the need for multiple speakers spread across your living room. The AMBEO is a good-looking soundbar; we dig its lacquered and brushed aluminium finish. It’s powered by 13 drivers and the latest virtualisation technology co-developed with Fraunhofer IIS (a German research organisation).
This device is compatible with Dolby Atmos, MPEG-H and DTS:X. It features a unique ‘Upmix’ Technology that can recreate stereo and 5.1 Content in stunning 3D. You can switch between five pre-sets that include movie and music mode that adjust not only the frequencies but also the 3D sound characteristics. A companion app (on your smartphone — both iOS and Android) takes the remote out of the equation; you can control the soundbar from your phone. Advanced connectivity options include built-in Google Chromecast, Bluetooth and HDMI eARC/CEC. There are three further HDMI inputs, an optical audio port and an AUX (RCA) input. Set up is a breeze too — an automatic calibration process just takes three minutes to configure the sound for your room and preferred seating position. (Rs 1,99,990)
