The Honor 9X is the first launch from the brand in a while; it’s an aggressively priced device that doesn’t skimp on key features. Huawei’s standoff with the US government has grabbed a lot of headlines, but this is a fully functional Android device (pre-loaded with Android 9.0 aka Pie) that comes with all the Google Apps that you need.

The Honor 9X is a good looking device, with a gorgeous 3D curved design and a unique X-shaped textured back that set this device apart. It’s Huawei’s custom UI – EMUI 9.1 that lets this device down somewhat with its cluttered interface. The display is one of the standout features of this device. Honor has added a 16MP pop-up selfie cam to keep the 6.59-inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels / 391 PPI) display truly immersive. It’s all screen, minus the bezels. Colours are quite vibrant, even under sunlight, this all you need to catch all your favourite videos on the go.

At 196 gm, it’s not a lightweight device; the 4000 mAh battery is certainly a worthy trade-off. This is not a battery that will let you down. The 9X is powered by a Hisilicon Kirin 710F chip set, almost identical to the 710 processor that was under the hood of its predecessor (The Honor 8X). Honor offers a choice of 4GB / 128GB  and 6GB/128GB hardware variants. The rear cam (triple lens including a 48MP primary lens) performance is a mixed bag but this is a smartphone that delivers decent bang for the buck. (Rs 13,999 onwards)

Blaupunkt BTW Pro: Blaupunkt’s all-new true wireless ear buds improve on last year’s BTW-01 earbuds with some key new features. If you’re looking to ditch those wires and go wireless, these well-priced buds deserve your attention. First, it’s the compact size. The case is light and can slip into your jeans without a fuss while the buds are featherlight too. We like the Auto Pairing feature — the first bud you pull out of the charging case becomes the default master bud and initiates pairing with a new device seamlessly. This is a feature that we tried with both iPhones and Android devices.

Sound quality is quite impressive for its price. The BTW Pro features Qualcomm’s aptX HD sound that supports 24-bit music quality; this ensures that some of the smaller details in the music are also captured. There are two features that set these Bluetooth buds apart. First is a unique dual microphone solution that uses one mic exclusively to cancel external sounds - a feature callers at the other end will appreciate. And then there’s the 36-hour battery life for the charging case which gives it an edge over the competition. We wish Blaupunkt had opted for a USB Type-C charger instead of sticking to the old-school Micro-USB charging solution. The Blaupunkt BTW Pro sits comfortably on your ears and also reduces external sounds with a watertight design. (Rs 6,999)
