The messaging service Snapchat is essentially upgrading its services to keep them in contention. As WhatsApp focuses on simplicity and Facebook Messenger chases commerce, Snapchat is placing itself as the most interactive way for us to chat.

Snapchats blog says that, “Today, we’re excited to introduce Chat 2.0. You can start by sending a few chats, and when your friend shows up, start talking or video chatting instantly with one tap.”

Let’s now look at the new upgrades that are out with Chat 2.0:

    Snapchat Stories now auto-advance:

If you are towards the end of friend’s video story all you need to do is swipe left, the next story in your list starts playing. This allows for seamless transition between videos and helps you to watch as many videos as needed.

    Over 200 new stickers:

Snapchat has now updated its sticker bank. You can now send a sticker in the private chat to all your friends easily. Once you have typed the text on the chat a sticker which relates to the text surfaces up. Snapchat’s recent $100 million acquisition of Bitstrips makes perfect sense now.

    Video Notes:

This feature allows you to send a quick 10 second video to your friend. The video is on a loop and if the recipient wants audio they can just click the sound icon and audio recorded will play.

    Audio Notes:

This is similar to Facebook messenger and WhatsApp audio messages.

    Video and Audio Calls:

You can now make both audio and video calls. This is another latest addition to Snapchat, though other messaging services have it on their roster long ago. But Snapchat has a few tricks up their selves, you can also send photos and text messages while you’re on a call with someone. This allows multi-tasking aspect while you’re on a call.

    Multiple Photos:

You can now send multiple photos at once on Snapchat, and mark them up with Snapchat’s text, drawing, and filter tools.

    Privacy Center:

Snapchat was known to have a kink in their security last year when users private chat had been tracked and released on the internet. The privacy center site now clarifies that Snapchat only temporarily saves snaps submitted to Live stories and deletes everything else.

These updates have been rolled out on both iOS and Android platforms.
