CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday inaugurated Tamil Nadu's first Liquid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station in Manthangal village in Ranipet district.

The liquid CNG station was set up by AG&P Pratham company at an area of 1.2 acres and at the cost of Rs 30 crore. The station has two tanks with a capacity of 56,000 litres. From the station, the liquid CNG will be sent to 70 distribution stations and 30,000 houses through pipelines by the company.

The Union government to supply natural gas to houses through pipelines in Tamil Nadu has designated seven companies. The companies will develop the required infrastructure in the districts allotted to them. AG&P Pratham will develop the pipeline infrastructure in districts such as Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur and Ramanathapuram. AG&P, in a span of 8 years, will start distributing CNG to 222 distribution stations and seven lakh houses through pipelines.

Industries Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu, Industries Secretary S Krishnan and officials were present at the inauguration function.
